I was born on 20 April 1958, Oelsnitz/ Vogtland, Germany. I started my career at the local music school, first with recorder and clarinette. At the age of 16 I moved to Berlin to study saxophone, flute and piano at the conservatory "Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler". 3 years later I started playing my sax in a jazz-rockband named 'FUSION' as a professional. After some years of apprenticeship in other projects by Wolfgang Fiedler, Uwe Kropinski and Hannes Bauer. I founded the first project of my own in 1983. The musicians were Volker Schlott (as), Thomas Klemm (ts), Günter Bartel (b) and Peter Gröning (dr). In 1985/86 I formed the
FUN HORNS, a meanwhile
internationally well-established quartet with four horns, the Volker Schlott-Quartet (VSQ) and after that my REEDS-SOLO project. During these years I
worked as a soloist in the "Radio-BIG
BAND BERLIN", was a member of the "Hannes-Zerbe-Blechband"
and the "College Band", which was awarded the 2nd prize at the
"International Jazzcontest" in Hoilaart/Belgium. On an international level I have played with Cecil Taylor, John Tchicai, Bobby Previte, Tony Oxley, Simon Nabatov, Phil Haynes, Pierre DØrge, Baby Sommer, Harry Beckett, Joachim Kühn ... Since 1989 I have played with actor Hans Joachim
Frank, the Georg Büchner-project "LENZ". Since 1990 I have
played several times with Pierre DØrges "New Jungle Orchestra". And since 1992 I
have also been a member of
'TALAM', a woodwind band from Berlin led by Gebhard Ullmann. (1998
tour of USA and Canada) and with the Turkish singers SEMA + TAKSIM. I have composed music for all these projects, some soundtracks for movies and theatre plays. I have worked as an author for music publisher AMA (playbook for saxophon "Saxofun 1 / 2" and as a teacher at the conservatory "Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler". |
